We are extremely grateful to Joanne Sheehan and the entire Sheehan Family for their generosity in sharing these pictures. Jay Sheehan was KIA on 5 February 1968, at the age of 19 years old. In Hue City, during the Tet Offensive of 1968. He died on a bridge, over the Phu Cam Canal. 1st Platoon had pulled up to the bridge, to recon (access) the damages to the bridge and the repairs needed. Jay was with the Platoon Leader and a few others who had went out on the bridge. The NVA (North Vietnamese Army) had set a deadly ambush, every door and window in the buildings across the Canal opened up on them. At the day's end we had something like 68 casualties from that firefight. Elements of a Marine Recon team and the 1/27 Marine grunts were there. Jay Sheehan was an outstanding Marine, a hard working Bridgemen who carried more then his own weight, He was liked and loved by all that knew him. These are his pictures, and his words, written on the backs of those pictures, are in Quotes. This Page is Humbly Dedicated to Jay's Memory. Webmaster; Mike Moran |
